Blessing or curse

Transmission number: 4

Date: June 27 2086

That chest that logo that name is what helps me to survive these oh so long days that I spend just hoping to be found. It was also the cause of my pain! Maybe if I had asked or spied on my farther a little more, or even just opened my eyes to the world I would of seen it coming. All I can say is stupid star steel.

I softly ran my hand over the smooth black chest and the silver star. I softly put my hands on the lock and flicked it open then opened the lid. Inside was a strange assortment of items. Three black jump suites with silver attachments in different sizes. Another three sites like the first three only short sleeved and shorts. Three pairs of black thigh high boots. Three thick black bomber jackets. A flare gun and about twelve more flares, three flashlights, three whistles, a large emergency box. Then a tube like contraption with a filter at the top that led of to a tube then another cylinder, a keypad was at the side with a thick rubber bottom. There was a large tent, emergency radio, an old time spy glass, lots of rope and climbing gear, goggles snorkel and fins. I raised an eyebrow and pulled out snow shoes, knives, then what looked to be the hilt of a katana. Next came large backpacks. Finally I came the last item a book.

The cover was glossy black with the words star steel embossed in silver lettering. I opened it up and found to my surprise it was a handbook to everything in there. I sighed and climbed up into my bed and opened the page to the intro.

Dear Reader,
If you are reading this then there has been a nuclear fall out. Do not fear for it is just a new beginning. The Star Steel project has been around for fifteen years making items that will be helpful in everyday life.  Everything is made of star steel and will be guaranteed to last for a centuries.
Sincerely:
Jonah Trinity.

I gave a gasp,  My farther helped to create this stuff?  I quickly flipped a few pages and came to a page with the picture of the suites on it.

The suites are made of star steel. (A mixture of titanium, spider silk, and meteorite.) helps to keep the heat in or to keep you cool, for the changing temperatures of outside.  Along with the boots they are all weather and fire resistant and wont ware down.

Next was the tube thingy.

The water filter is able to filter any liquid and make it into drinkable water.  Put the water into the top and press the green button.  The waste will filter out into the second chamber and will be sterilized.  The disks in the boxes that have been provided are different broths and teas.  Put a disk into the pure water and press the red button.  The broth and tea will heat up.

Next the hilt.

To activate the blade press one of the three buttons on the side.

I took up the hilt and pressed the top button and a large blade of glowing black extended. I pressed the button again and flipped through the book reading everything till I finaly came to the last page with another note.

In this terrible time the world is made a new.  It is both a blessing and a curse.  Treat it as both and you will be fine.  you have the power to rebuild this nation.  To keep the peace and to stop the wars.  We had our chance and we will not get a third.  The wait of the world rests on you.

Star Steel

Transmission number: 3

Date: June 24 2086

The dream comes back to haunt me.  Every night the clues that I should of known come to me in a torrent.  It's bean haunting my mind since I first slept that day.

Aney and I slowly crept through the halls of my house.  It was early morning and the golden rays of sunlight streamed through the large windows.  We both giggled knowing what we were doing and what would happen if we got caught.  We were on a deadly adventure to sneak in my dad's office.

We finally made it to the door to Father's office.  I put my ear up against the door and listened, nothing but silence.  I gave the thumbs up to Anney who gave me a grin.  I twisted the brass door handle in the shape of a serpent's head.  We stepped in the sun drenched office.  There on the desk sat the glowing halo screen.  We crept to the dark brown leather chair and sat on it.

The desk was clean with only the picture of me and my mother, the neat stack of pens, and his halo screen computer.  But what caught our eye was the folder with a big red classified stamped across it.  My eyes grew wide and I stretched my hand slowly to open it.  I turned to Anney who was also looking at the folder.  She nodded towards me.

The flipped the folder open and diagram after diagram spilled out.  All with the title star steel tech on it.  "What the..."  I began only to have anney clamp her hand over my mouth.  She held her finger to her mouth, then turned towards the door, were I heard voices.  We silently stood closed the folder and quickly left the room in time to see Farther in his lab coat talking with a group of military men.  They looked at us sternly and entered the office and shut the door.

We both pressed our ear to the door.  "The war... Coming... Is it ready?"  A man asked.

"Yes project Star steel is up and running lets hope we don't have to use it."  The the hall began to cloud and I was falling till I was out side with people running and screaming in a city.  Up ahead were streaks of light coming closer and closer.  Till the were nearly there and the earth was gone with a ball of fire coming towards me.

My eyes flashed open.  I sat up straight in the un-familiar bed with a major headache.  I looked around and sat back with a groan as last nights events flashed through my head.  I couldn't believe that I even slept at all.  "Computer what time is it?"

Local time 10:17 a.m.

I slowly got up and looked more closely at my surroundings the room was about the sizes of my bedroom.  The walls were concrete, I was sleeping on a triple bunk on the bottom.  Leading off from the main room was a tiny bathroom.  A tiny book case sat at the end of the bunk filled to the brim with Atlases maps survival books, and a few actual books.  A tiny sink and stove rested in the far corner near the store of canned and boxed food.  A large wooden chest sat on the opposite wall with the table and the glowing radio cube.

I walked over the emergency chest with the red cross and pulled out a rather large bottle of aspirin and dry swallowed one, then went to the bathroom and looked at myself in the mirror.  My brown hair was messy with twigs and leaves and dried blood.  I ran the tap and slowly washed my face and plucked the leaves and twigs from my hair.  I stripped down and got into the tiny shower and washed the grim and dirt from hair.  The water wasn't the warmest but it felt good running down my shoulders.

After my shower I walked out and found my emergency pack.  I pulled it up to the middle level, then crawled up and pulled the black bag onto my lap.  The bag was large and black, like a normal backpack, but on the top was a silver star.  I opened it up and found two shirts one tank one long sleeve, two pairs of pants on shorts and one skinny jeans, three water bottles and some food.  I took it out and found to my surprise my Ipod, and a tiny photo book.  The cover was shiny black with the same star on it, inside it was filled of pictures of family and friends.  I tear slowly slid down my face, I quickly wiped it away and slammed the book shut then jumped off the bed.  I sighed and slid down the wall.

"Computer!"

Yes 355?

"Any signs of life?"

My readings say no.  I sighed and looked around the room when something caught my eye.  It was a black chest.  I slowly stood up and walked over to the trunk that was hidden in the shadow.  There was another star on it with again the words STAR STEEL.  What was star steel?

The Beginning

Transmission number: 2

Date: June 23 2086

I don't know how to begin on how this would happen.  The day flashes before my eyes like a deadly twisting nightmare.  Am I really alone?  Is there some one out there? am I doing the right thing?  I cannot think, all I see is there faces, twisted in there last moments.  Maybe if I tell then the pain will leave.  That's what I will do.  I will tell what is happening know and last.  I should begin four days ago.

I was awoken late in the night by the screeching sirens.  I instantly sat up and looked around, nothing.  I quickly looked at the glowing numbers of  my clock, 2:23 am, with a groan I sat back.  Why did they have to do this drill know?  I thought to myself.  I swung my legs over the edge of my bed and onto the cool hardwood floor.  I stood slowly, covering my ears against the shrieking of the siren.

With a Bang the door to my room burst open and my mom ran in.  My mother was tall and pretty with long pin-strate brown hair and deep green eyes.  I looked just like her only my hair was as straight and my features not so sharp.  "Brin!"  she called my name, her eyes flashed around the room.

"Mom?"  I softly asked stepping into the light.  She spun around and looked at me with her calm eyes.

Come one!  We must go!"  She said, her voice was shaking ever so slightly.

"What's wrong?"  I asked her slowly.

"Just a drill darling.  Just a drill,"  She said the last part to herself, as she knelt next to my bed to retrieve my emergency pack.  She stood, her eyes darting to the window.  Something was up.  She grabbed my hand and pulled me out into the hall.  I promptly shook my hand from her grip.

"What is going on!"  I demanded.  She took me by my shoulders and looked me in the eyes.

"Nothing is wrong!" She said.  "Everything will be okay,"  She gave me a small calming smile took my hand and pulled me down the stairs and into the Fowler were my farther stood.  My father was a scientist. (what he did I had no Idea.) He was tall, like my mother, with wavy blond hair, grey eyes, and a kind face.  But at the moment his face was shrouded in worry, his knuckles were white from holding his emergency bag.

"Come on we must leave!"  He shouted at us over the screaming alarm.  Mother bustled me out the back door with farther behind us.

"Open!"  Mother commanded and the door slid open.  I shielded my eyes against the blaring light that cut huge swaths in the night.  The night sky was a glow of purple black read and yellow, like a sickening bruise.  People were running through the streets trying to get to the shelters.

Farther came up behind me and clamped his hand firmly on my shoulder.  "Be brave Brin,"  He whispered softly into my ear.  He the straightened and walked over to mother and whispered something into her ear.  She nodded and grabbed my hand and led me past our shelter.

"Mother..."

"Shh,"  My mother cut me off with a stern glance.  Farther looked behind him at us, his grey eyes wild.

"We must hurry,"  he said again looking up at the sky.  He stopped scanning the area abruptly cursed under his breathe and rushed at me.  With a yelp he picked me up and began to run with mother at his side.  I was to shocked to say anything so I hid my face in his arm feeling as the branches pulled at my clothes.

Less the a minute later we stopped.  I opened my eyes and father put me down.  We were in a clearing in the middle of the woods.  Farther rushed forward and waved his hand a glowing key pad appeared.  Farther typed something and the keypad and it blinked out and a trap door slid open to reveal a stair case.

Mother pushed me forward and gave me the bags.  "Go down sweety!  We will be there in a second," she smiled softly at me.

"Yes mother,"  I said softly.  She hugged me and kissed the top of my head.

"I love,"  She said softly.

"I love you both!"  I said and farther hugged me and kissed my head.

"Go my daughter,"  He said softly and I stepped into the stair case, walked down a few steps and looked back into time to see Farther put his arm around mothers waist and kiss, the door slid shut.  I gulped and made my way down the steps till finally when my legs were burning and I was gasping for breathe I came to a steel door.  There was a projector and I waved in front of it.

Name, came the emotionless voice.

"Brin Trinity,"

Code,

"355,"  The code was given to everyone in town, mine was 355 which meant lady or woman.  The doors hissed and slid open.  I gasped, the doers were three feet thick and went far into the wall.  When it stopped I went into the room, and the doors thudded behind me, the lights came on.  I was in a room packed with cans three beds, emergency packs, a bathroom, desk, chest, table, tiny halo stove, and a radio cube.  I set our bags on the beds and walked over to the radio and turned it on.

More on the news of the attacks. I paused, "Oh my god." I went back and listened.  The nuclear attacks on America is happening all over the world, it truly is world war three.  Known missiles are heading towards us.  We will stay on the air as long as we can.

I knew instantly this wasn't a drill.  I jumped up knocking over the chair and rushed over to the door and began to bang on it.  "Open up!"  I screamed, my knuckles began to bleed.

I'm sorry 355 no one gets in and no one gets out till threat has been eliminated.  I screamed again and began to sob still hitting my fists against the door creating bloody marks on it.

"MOM! DAD!"  I sobbed.  "Please! NO!"  I slid down still softly banging on the door.  "no no no. NO!"  I sobbed curling myself into a ball, in the back round god bless America was playing.  The song ended and the man began to speak again just one line and my world exploded.  Just one line.

Oh my god.  The radio went dead.  I looked up and then there was a bang.  A scream tore from my lips, as the room shook and the lights flickered out.  I was thrown across the room and my head hit the wall and my vision dimmed.

____________________________________________________________________

I woke to find myself curled against the far wall with my head throbbing with something sticky on it.  I raised my fist that were red and raw to my face to find a gash the was still bleeding over my eyebrow.  I winced and sat up, that was when the events of last night hit.  I curled up again and began to sob silently.  After ten minutes I looked up.  "Computer!"

Yes 355?

What is the condition of the outside.

Radiation is at an all time high with devastation, and no visible life signs.  The was a click and the halo screen turned on and showed a wasteland.  The sky was orange purple black and yellow filled with gasses.  There were no trees and the buildings were just random debris that survived the blast.  Nothing was there absolutely nothing.  This was just the beginning.

I must stop know.
